“It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I convey the news of the demise of my precious, amazing, gorgeous wife Melanie,” her husband Robert wrote in an emotional and personal letter. If you’ve been following our storey, I’m sure you were hoping she’d be able to beat this cunning sickness as much as we were.”
Robert went on to say that things had gotten “progressively worse” over the last few months, and that the family had “tried to make it through the holidays” while also making “every moment count.” “My family, our physicians, our nurses, and especially Melanie fought until the end, and did everything we could to avoid today, but that is not our destiny,” the post read, with heartwarming photos of Melanie and her children. Melanie fought like a warrior queen, as all those rooting for us know.”
“My family and I believe today we want to commemorate an incredible woman and a life well-lived,” Robert continued, adding, “she loved passionately, created brilliantly, provided abundantly, and was my best friend to the end.” Melanie developed crochet, quilting, sewing, and DIY instructions on her YouTube channel, which had more than 800,000 subscribers, as well as on her craft blog, where she posted quilting patterns and kept followers up to speed on her health.
Melaine was diagnosed with cancer for the first time in 2018 when physicians noticed a tumour on her left kidney. However, the tumours reappeared in several areas in 2020, following the initial removal procedure. Melanie then said that she had been diagnosed with PE-Coma, a cancer that belongs to the “Sarcoma family of malignancies” and is “very rare.” She continues to bring them up to date on her cancer treatment and surgeries. Her most recent health update came in October of 2021.
“Peace and love to you all, hug those you love today, raise a toast of Bourbon (her favourite, which she hasn’t had during her journey) and say a prayer for my lovely, strong children,” Robert concluded. Melanie is survived by two children and her husband, with whom she was set to mark her 16th wedding anniversary. Thousands of Melanie’s fans responded on the social media post following the devastating news, paying respect to her memory.
