Prepare to return to Hogwarts because we’ve finally received a trailer for the Harry Potter reunion special, in which Emma Watson gets EMOTIONAL as she reminisces with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and a slew of other cast members.
Can you believe Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was originally released in theatres twenty years ago in 2021? HBO Max is presenting Harry Potter’s 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts on New Year’s Day to commemorate the legendary anniversary of the first film and all that followed, and they’ve now published the first teaser for the forthcoming special.
The reunion, which was shot at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, will undoubtedly include sit-down interviews with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the famed triumvirate at the core of the series. We’re in tears simply seeing them together again… especially when footage from the previous film appears in the teaser, demonstrating how mature everyone has become!
Obviously, we’re not alone, because the clip is chock-full of wonderful, tear-jerking moments! Emma appears in the Great Hall and hugs awaiting Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy, saying, “It feels like no time has passed and LOADS of time has passed,” after giving us a few glances of the stars strolling the corridors of the Studio tour.
However, because we are unable to do so, we believe that witnessing this special will provide plenty of magic! Along with Daniel, Rupert, and Emma, the reunion will include Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Felton, and Matthew Lewis, as well as directors Chris Columbus and Alfonso Cuarón, and a slew of other performers and creative forces behind the movie.
The returning stars will sit down with one another throughout the special to discuss their production experiences and give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how the entire Harry Potter franchise came together. Helena Bonham Carter, who portrayed Bellatrix in the films, tells Daniel that one of her favourite scenes was when she had to pretend to be Hermoine pretending to be Bellatrix.
She also said that she still has the false teeth she wore… and that she wears them! Aside from the surprise props, all the glimpses of the stars as they grew up alongside their younger selves had everyone at the reunion, as well as those of us watching at home, in tears! The reunion clip serves as a timely reminder that, just as the films had a profound influence on us as fans, they had an equal impact on the performers. Especially when Daniel says in the teaser, “I wouldn’t be the way I am without so many people here,” which echoes what many fans of the books and films would say.
And, yes, if the film’s 20th anniversary has you wondering if the stars are still buddies, don’t be concerned. They haven’t grown apart just because they’ve grown up! We can already tell that when Harry Potter’s 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts premieres on HBO Max on January 1st, we’ll need lots of Kleenex after viewing this incredibly brief promo for the programme.
